Debut album HYDRA is our journey through multiple musical influences. Carrying on the chamber jazz tradition of Gil Evans (Birth of Cool), Herbie Hancock (Speak Like a Child), and Chick Corea (Septet), we create colourful soundscapes and kaleidoscopic textures with our unique instrumentation. Inspired by multi-headed serpent, of Greek mythology, Hydra presents multiple musical genres coexisting in a single entity. Although firmly rooted in the jazz, its influences include Funk, Soul, Afro-Cuban, Bossa Nova, and Contemporary Classical and electronica.

A pivotal collaboration for this project involved working closely with Toronto-based composer Quinn Jacobs. Commissioned to create new material, Jacobs played a crucial role in shaping the ensemble's distinctive sound. Together, we've created an album that not only pays homage to jazz traditions but also ventures into uncharted territories, celebrating the fusion of genres and the exploration of musical possibilities.
